WMM~Laurel Touby

Laurel Touby, I'm sure you've heard the name, she's a media maven! Laurel was recently named to NowPublic's list of New York's top fifty "news influencers." But this recognition isn't the reason why she's a woman making moves, she began her accession as a WMM when she launched mediabistro.com. Laurel's official title is Founder, CEO and Cyberhostess of mediabistro.com, a space for professionals in the content and creative industry, i.e. me.
I became a fan of mediabistro.com when I relocated to NYC three years ago. I was in desperate need of a job in the PR field. And everyone I came into contact with referred me to the website. Although I'm no longer in need of a job, I continue to visit mediabistro.com because it features so much more than just job opportunities.
As many women who are making moves, Laurel has made some great career moves. She sold her company for $23 million to Jupitermedia last year. This is a great example of a woman doing what women do best, making moves!

WMM~Italian Vogue

I have to acknowledge the Italian issue of Vogue for being forward-thinking! The July issue of Italia Vogue is dedicated to black models. The "Black Issue," as it is referred to in the modeling industry, features an array of models. Legendary model Noami Campbell, Tyra Banks, America's Next Top Model Toccara Jones, Alek Wek, up-and-comer Chanel Iman and many more. Personally, I've been trying to purchase a copy of this issue for weeks. Each time I visit my local newsstand, it's sold-out. This issue is definitely flying off the shelves! I'm excited that Italia Vogue has taken the initiative to showcase beauties of all colors. Kudos!

WMM~YWTF

YWTF stands for the Younger Women's Task Force. Tonight I attended a meeting of the New York Metro Chapter and these women are definitely making moves!
I've received a number of invitations to attend a YWTF meeting, but this was the first time I was able to attend. YWTF is a project of the National Council of Women's Organization. This grassroots group organizes young women to take action on issues that are most important to them. I would say that this is definitely an organization of feminist who are committed to younger women having their voices heard. I left the meeting inspired to become active in the group and encourage other young women to do the same.
YWTF New York recently held its annual fundraising event, Rock for Younger Women. Spoken word artists, bands and other entertainers were on-hand to raise funds for YWTF initiatives, such as its Voting Vixen campaign that encourages young women to participate in the election process.
If you are interested in learning more about this org or jumping on the bandwagon and helping young women speak-out about issues relating to them, there are a number of ways you can participate. YWTF New York is active on meetup.com and Facebook. Visit the YWTF national website if there is not a chapter near you. Let's applaud these young women for Making Moves.
