This week Women Making Moves celebrates not an individual woman, but a group of women who have made moves since 1913. I am a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and January 13 marks the 95th anniversary of Delta's inception.
In 1913 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., 22 women joined forces to create Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Twenty-two strong, collectively these women knew their ambition could assist those not able to do so for themselves in addition to promoting academic excellence. Scholarship, Service and Sisterhood is a phrase often associated with the over 200,000 members of the sorority located throughout the world.
Delta has a Five-Point Program initiative that focuses on:
Economic Development
Educational Development
International Awareness and Involvement
Physical and Mental Health
Political Awareness and Involvement
Program development and implementation
Today Women Making Moves salutes Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for its commitment to making communities throughout the world better places since 1913. Additional information on the illustrious sorority can be found at
